Reporting that Gives a Complete Picture of Progress – Automatically

You can download CARS or STARS Student Summary Report by following the step-by-step instructions below.

1. Navigate to Group Reports located on the left-hand side of the menu and click on Class Reports.
2. Select CARS and choose CARS Student Summary Report (or STARS Student Summary report) and click the View Report button.
3. You may also generate the Student Summary Report for whole-class by clicking on the Print Multiple Reports (green button) option located at the top right-hand side of the page.
4. In the Report Filters section select the Classroom, Student, Reading Level and Type of Test you want (refer to Figure 1). Then click on Submit.
5. You may download the report by clicking on the PDF (red button) or CSV (green button) option located at the top right-hand side of the page.

You can download CARS Class Reports by following the step-by-step instructions below.

You can download any STARS Class Report by following the step-by-step instructions below.

1. Navigate to Group Reports located on the left-hand side of the menu and click on Class Reports.
2. Select STARS and choose STARS Class Reading Strategy Individual Performance Report (or any report) and click the View Report button.
3. In the Report Filters section select the Classroom, Reading Level and Lesson Type you want (refer to Figure 3). Then click on Submit.
4. You may download the report by clicking on the PDF (red button) or CSV (green button) option located at the top right-hand side of the page.

You can download any FOCUS Reading Class Reports by following the step-by-step instructions below.

1. Navigate to FOCUS Reading on the left-hand side of the menu and click on Class Reports.
2. Choose FOCUS Reading Class Reading Strategy Details Report (or any report) and click the View Report button.
3. In the Report Filters section select the Classroom, Student, Reading Level and Strategy you want (refer to Figure 4). Then click on Submit.
4. You may download the report by clicking on the PDF (red button) or CSV (green button) option located at the top right-hand side of the page.

School reports are designed for school administrators, principals, deputy principals, heads of curriculum and directors of studies to analyse overall school reading comprehension performance. These reports can be accessed only by Teacher accounts with School Administrator access rights.

If teachers are having trouble locating a particular student's data in the CARS & STARS Online Class Reports, but can view their individual student reports, this could be because the teacher's class report Advanced Filter date does not match with the student’s Reading Level created date. (For example, Ben White's data will not be shown in the 2022 class report because his reading level was created on 19/08/2021. In this case, to see his data the teacher would need to change the class report Advanced Filter date to fit with Ben White's Reading Level created date.)

Teachers can view each classroom student's reading level and their Reading Level Created Date (refer to Figure 5) by following the step-by-step instructions below.

1. Navigate to Reading Levels located on the left-hand side of the menu and click on View Reading Level List.
2. In the Report Filters section select the Classroom (the student's classroom missing in the report) and set Current Reading Level as All. Then click on Submit.
3. You will be able to see all the students’ reading levels and their reading level created date in the selected classroom. Click on the Created date to sort the dates by ascending or descending order.

After identifying the earliest student reading level created date, you will be able to access all the student report data by changing the Advanced Report Filters Reading Level Created Start and End date.

1. Navigate to Group Reports -> Class Reports located on the left-hand side of the menu, choose CARS Class Test Performance Report (or any report) and click the View Report button.
2. In the Report Filters section select the Classroom, set Reading Level as All, Lesson Type as Overall and in the Advanced Filters select Assessment created Start date (earliest student reading level created date) and End date as today's date. Then click on Submit (refer to Figure 6).
3. You will be able to view all the student test data.
4. You may download the report by clicking on the PDF (red button) or CSV (green button) option located at the top right-hand side of the page.

CARS & STARS Online is designed for students to generally stay on the same level for the entire year (before retesting the next year) and so STARS instruction can be supplemented by FOCUS Reading over the course of the year for students needing further tasks or extra practice in a specific strategy.

If the classroom teacher believes the initial reading level is too easy or too difficult for a student after reviewing their pretest results, they may manually reassign them to another level. It is important students redo the CARS tests (on levelled reading passages) and that you archive the previous reading levels for future reference, deleting the previous reading level that was not started to avoid confusion, so that only appropriate data is generated.

Classroom teachers can archive the previous reading levels from the student profile page. To archive the previous reading level, click on the Actions drop-down menu and select the Archive Reading Level option. For more information, click here.

Teachers can use the Student Summary Report to review a student’s overall strengths and weaknesses, and then use the Planning Form to document what action will be taken – remediation or further instruction – to help that student achieve mastery. They can then go on to record their progress following these steps.

On the student's profile page, teachers can enter their classroom students' progress notes and action plan for the selected assessment by clicking on the Actions Button and selecting the Edit CARS Planning Form link.

Once a report is generated, it will be stored on your Report History page. This feature can be accessed by navigating to Group Reports and selecting Report History. The History of recently generated reports will be displayed on the page so you can locate the recently generated report. This feature will help you to save time as you do not have to fill in the report filters again as, with a click of the link, it will generate the report immediately in the future.

With the help of the Active Classroom feature, on a single page, teachers will be able to view what a student has completed. Teachers can easily monitor their students’ progress on every student device at the same time or generate summary reports that show individual strengths and weaknesses in the twelve reading strategies – all with a single click. 1. Navigate to Active Classroom located on the left-hand side of the menu and select the Classroom. Then click on Submit.
2. Click on the student’s name and choose the CARS or STARS to view that student's progress (refer to Figure 7).
3. At the same time, you could monitor your student's real time progress by enabling the Active Screen button. Click this button to turn the Active Screen feature ON or OFF. The images will indicate what is on each student's device screen at that time, allowing you to observe their activities – whether they are accessing the online learning program with compliant or non-compliant devices, or whether they are offline.
4. Furthermore, if you would like to view an in-depth analysis of the student's data you could click on the View Benchmark Summary Report button (or any Student Summary report according to your selection) to view the student's data.

To provide a simplified and efficient digital experience, schools can download CARS & STARS Online student data with a Student Unique Identifier, readily integrating it with their reporting system. Schools provide Hawker Brownlow Digital with their students' enrolment data for the yearly rollover to quickly connect with CARS & STARS Online without having to go through several spreadsheets.

If your classrooms have been created for sub-grouping or cohort and you have successfully added your students in these sub-grouping or cohort classrooms, you now have the capability to produce class reports based on these classrooms through the classroom option.

It is important to note that a teacher account with school administrator rights will have access to all classrooms within the school account. However, if a classroom teacher desires access to specific sub-grouping or cohort classrooms, the school administrator must assign these classrooms to the teacher's account.

To create a cohort report, the process is the same as creating a class report. Simply choose the cohort classroom from the available list of classrooms.
